Volunteer with Rayjon

Become a volunteer! Rayjon welcomes volunteers of all ages and walks of life. We offer opportunities locally and internationally, for a variety of time commitments, interests, and skills.

Rayjon volunteers enjoy their engagement with others with similar interests in social justice, the opportunity to polish skills, to get volunteer hours and to make a difference.

Rayjon volunteers

Rayjon is currently seeking volunteers to perform specific roles set out below:

Event Helpers

Rayjon hosts a variety of fundraising events during the year: Trail & Ale, DeGroot’s plant sale, cultural celebrations, garage sales, mall events, socials and more! Have you got a few hours to spare and are you willing to be a friendly face in a public place? Event helpers generally assist with set-up and take-down, as well as help sell items (coffee, vanilla, Haitian artwork). We’ll provide you with all the training you need and make sure that you have a fun time. Shifts are scheduled according to your availability and preference.

Photographer

Have you got skills in photography? Or a creative eye and a willingness to try? With so many exciting Rayjon events happening in Sarnia-Lambton, we are in need of photographers to help us capture those special moments. Photos will be shared on our website, via social media, and in our educational/promotional materials.

Leader or Co-Leader of Annual Fundraising Event(s)

Do you like event planning and fundraising? Is organizing your thing?  Here’s your chance to support Rayjon in their work in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We are looking for volunteers who would love the opportunity to support us but don’t necessarily want an ongoing commitment to a specific role.   We need people who would like to plan, organize, and run a fund-raising event, big or small.  You can take on an existing event, or help in the creation of a new one!

We are looking for fresh energy and leadership. Volunteers receive training and support from long-time volunteers to “learn the ropes.” Tasks include working in a collaborative fashion with the event hosts, and coordinating other Rayjon volunteer event helpers. Event leaders also often organize collection of items for raffle, silent auction, etc., and work with the Executive Director to coordinate public engagement aspects of the event, including promotion, messaging, and sharing stories and updates from Haiti/DR.

Occasional Translators (Français, Kreyòl, and Español)

From time to time translating documents from English to French or Spanish or Haitian Creole, or alternatively translating from Creole or French or Spanish to English.   Documents are usually general with very few documents considered to be technical in nature.  With more than one translator, translations could be completed at the convenience and comfort level of the translator.

Occasional Graphic Artist/Marketing/Web Site Assistant

Acting as a resource, on an occasional basis, to the Executive Director and/or other volunteers. Rayjon would benefit from assistance in making changes to the web site, or the services of a person with graphic artist or marketing skills to provide assistance in creating posters and other promotional material.
