Rayjon History

In 1985, a group from across Ontario traveled to Haiti on a Poverty Awareness Trip. Two of the travelers, Ray Wyrzykowski and John Barnfield returned home inspired by what they had experienced. They told their stories to many people throughout South-Western Ontario and encouraged others to go and experience life in Haiti for themselves.

The Rayjon Organization was born in January 1986. Thirty-two years later, thousands of people have participated in Rayjon trips and experienced firsthand the richness of life in many developing countries.

From awareness trips came the desire to do more- to work in partnership with Haitians and Dominicans to effect change in their communities. With learning, communication, relationships and time we moved from simple acts of charity to participating in partnership toward lasting community development.
