Cap Haitian: Another Haiti

by Peterson Benjamin

“There are these corners of land in Haiti, sheltered from decibels of erupting confusion, where dignity prevails.”

Did you know that the Republic of Haiti is not just Port-au-Prince? Haiti is also this tropical island where you can find little corners of land where the virtue of courage prevails and where the spirit of hard work or « Konbit and tèt ansanm » are at the core of the community’s way of living. There are these corners of land in Haiti, sheltered from decibels of erupting confusion, where dignity prevails. There are these corners of land, resorts, welcoming towns. There are these corners of land; there is Cap-Haitian.

The town of Cap Haitian and its inhabitants have much to be proud of because the city’s great history, its culinary art and its landscape speak for themselves. The reputation of the Christophian city precedes it. Who doesn’t know or has never heard of the Citadelle Laferrière? A wonder of the modern world. Who hasn’t tasted the sweet cassava yet? Or the “rapadou”? Ah! And Labadee! There are no words to describe this seaside resort…The tourists love a nice boat cruise by this coast. In short, if we heard the song « Cap-Haitien je t’aime » by Richie, maestro of the Klass band, or of the Septentrional orchestra with the melodic voice of Roger Colas, then we would understand the inspiration, the vibe, the feeling that Cap Haitian brings: this is the “Cap Haitian pride.”

Rayjon Share Care of Sarnia in Canada and Rayjon Share Care Haiti are glad to be able to share this pride. And, they would love to share the kindness that they have received with all those who wish it: the partners, sponsors, donors current and future.

In Cap Haitian, time doesn’t stop, life is lived. The same goes for Rayjon’s projects. In this beautiful corner of Haiti’s land, there is no place for resignation, dazedness, fatalism. Cap-Haitian is indeed the place where these worthy daughters and sons of Henry Christophe were born.

By joining our solidarity efforts, by supporting our projects in Cap Haitian, by standing behind one of our beneficiaries, you will bring a smile to the faces of those whose motivation has always been the quest for “self-dependence” in the near future, of self-esteem and empowerment.

There are those corners of land in Haiti where hospitality creates bonds so strong they invite you to come and come back again, to the point where you start feeling that you belong there through legitimate adoption by the community. There are these corners of land in Haiti, sheltered from the decibels of erupting confusion, where dignity prevails. There are these corners of land; there is Cap-Haitian.
